Be your own brand! In a world full of black and white be the sparkle of gold. God did not create us to be like this world. He called us to be reflections of His light in the darkness. Now more than ever there’s a need for light among darkness. Let nothing dim your light; I cannot affect the world by being like it. I must stand out. There’s a need for me in this earth. I choose to be light.!- Sher’e G.
One of the things I have noticed about among this generation of millennials is the dreaded identity dilemma. “Who am I really”, “Where do I fit in”, “What is my purpose in life”, or “Why am I here”. Everyone wants to feel that they have a reason for their existence right? Of course, we all do. But one of the most dangerous things to do on your journey to becoming is to succumb to or conform to the world around you. I’ve tried it before and let me tell you, IT’S NOT WORTH IT. I struggled with my own identity in who God called me OUT to be because no one else was. I dismissed the greatness in myself because of the insecurities in others. Insecurities are LOUD, they are INTIMIDATING, and they are a LIE straight from hell. We all deal with them, or have dealt with them but we don’t have to become them. Insecurity will have you camouflaged better than a chameleon to the point that you completely forget who you are because you’re so caught up in the world around you. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT CONFORM!!! Don’t compromise your God given identity because the people around you don’t know who they are. Never let anyone make you feel anything less than confident in the person God says you are. Sure we all want to have friends, we all want to have someone to talk to or tell our secrets to without being judged. We all want to just be ourselves and be vulnerable with people we can actually trust! But if you cannot be yourself around the people you associate yourself with CHANGE YOUR CIRCLE. Are they pushing you, or enabling you? Ask yourself these things! The old TLC song “What About Your Friends” serves to be true, will they bail on you the minute it gets rough, will they stick up for you when others say things about you or will they join the conversation? If you don’t know, and are not confident in your answer, CHANGE YOUR CIRCLE. I’ve been called out plenty of times for standing on my beliefs. I’ve been misunderstood, lied on, and left behind, but I’d rather be alone in the majority of Jesus Christ than have the company of individuals who are double minded, afraid to stand out and step up and lack purpose and vision for their lives. Those type of people will dull your character and God created you to be FULL of CHARACTER. In this day and age we need to know who we are; insecurities are for the birds. The need to fit in must die! Sure Jesus hung around people that others deemed unworthy but He never allowed their character to rub off on Him. He attracted them to change them. He was never afraid to be Himself because He knew why He was SENT. God is sending you to some people to drop a seed of change in their lives but the minute you try to stick around and monitor it you can be caught up and changed yourself! I asked God a question the other night that completely challenged me. I asked Him, “To what extent can I hang around people who aren’t necessarily going or willing to go in the same direction as I am”? , but before I could even completely finish the sentence to form the question. He answered me ( God knows our thoughts y’all). He said to me, “The minute you feel the need to conform or dull your light to accommodate someone else’s comfort state”!! WOW what a revelation! We all have people in our lives that we love, or meet people that seem great, but the truth is we are called to be LIGHT! Light does not adjust to make you comfortable, you adjust to it!. Think about it, when you’re riding down the road and the sun is beaming through your windows what happens? Does the Sun adjust to your liking? Absolutely NOT! More than likely you’re going to put on shades, move the sun visor or turn in the opposite direction to keep the sun out of your eyes. That is the same with us, as Christians in this generation we have a tendency to try to adjust to fit the comfort liking of someone else. We don’t change by becoming like the world though! Romans 12 says not to conform to this world around us, but to be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of our mind. If we never renew our mind how are we going to inflict change in this world. God has never been partial to lukewarmness, in fact He doesn’t even tolerate it (Revelation 3). You’re either black or white, hot or cold, on fire or dull. You can’t be both! I’m convinced that some of the tendencies we have tolerated thus far are because we are afraid to be alone. This journey God call you to was for you, everyone can’t go with you. You’ve got to learn how to keep it moving in the right direction. We can’t entertain people and things that are contrary to the path God called us FORWARD to. Don’t become complacent and never moving! I’m a witness and can attest that every time I have found myself adapting to people and things around me for the sake of wanting to be liked and accepted, I regretted it every single time. I’d rather be found alone in my purpose, effectively and actively pursuing the things God has called me to, than to piddle around with things that will cause me to be idle. IDLENESS is a distraction and it is not a part of your destiny! Make conscious decision to live BRAND NEW! I refuse to let the opinions of people cause me be stagnant. What God says about you is all the justification and validation you need. Don’t be sucked in to the format of this world, again, BE CALLED OUT AND STAND OUT. If God is for you, then who can be against you?!
LIVE full of the expectation that God is going to bring you to your expected end.
Blessings,
Shere
